Overview

Nurturing from a loving parent or caregiver in the early years supports healthy brain development and may mitigate risk factors, especially when the baby is born prematurely or otherwise requires specialized care in the NICU. One of the best ways to help build a baby's brain is to provide targeted language exposure by a familiar caregiver through reading books, talking, and singing.\n

This NICU course will provide information to help providers and nursing staff implement a Reach Out and Read program in their NICU.\n

Certification

This Enduring Material activity, Reach Out and Read in Neonatal Intensive Care Units, has been reviewed and is acceptable for up to 0.25 Prescribed credits by the American Academy of Family Physicians. Term of approval begins 04/30/2025. Term of approval is for one year from this date. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
