Overview

Reach Out and Read is an evidence-based intervention integrated into medical clinics, designed to foster intentional skill-building in parents, resilience in families, and positive bonding between children and families. We know shared reading can help develop strong parent-child bonds that last a lifetime, buffering toxic stress and building resiliency. Literacy is a critical skill and early childhood is the critical stage for equipping children for a lifetime of success.\n

The learning objectives for this course are:

Discuss public health issues children may experience and how primary care medical providers can use Reach Out and Read as a prevention strategy.
Learn how Reach Out and Read is an example of the Upstream Approach.

Certification

This Enduring Material activity, Public Health Strategy, has been reviewed and is acceptable for up to 0.75 Prescribed credits by the American Academy of Family Physicians. Term of approval begins 04/30/2025. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.\n
